How To Create Your Own Bali Wellness Retreat

How to create your own Bali Wellness Retreat

For a long time I have wanted to do a yoga surf retreat in Bali but couldn’t really justify spending a couple thousand dollars to do so considering Bali is just a stones throw from Perth. On my last trip to Bali I decided to create my own version of a wellness retreat and I fell in love with Bali all over again. Here are some tips on how you can create your own too.Bali wellness retreat

Where to go

Ubud

Bali wellness retreat

Ubud “Medicine” in Sanskrit was once the centre for medicating the body and soul. To this day it still maintains some of this feel as yoga, meditation, natural surroundings and healthy places to eat. Located up in the mountains, and an hours drive north of the airport the scenery around here is just stunning.

Canggu

Canggu is a laid back coastal town between Seminyak and Tanah Lot with surf beaches and rice fields. It is an area that is still developing but is quite hipster like with health cafes and alternative music being played at bars.

Nusa Lembongan

Bali wellness retreat

A tropical island paradise without all the hustle and bustle of the main island of Bali with surfing, yoga, snorkelling and views of Mt Agung.

Where to stay

Ubud

Pertiwi Bisma 1

I was amazed with the amount of fish and the coral around Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. I spent the day snorkelling at Manta Bay with manta rays, Crystal Bay over some beautiful coral and at Mangrove Point with the clownfish. We had lunch at Warung Paradise and ended the day with a paddle board or kayak through the mangrove forest.

Tanah Lot
Bali’s scenic sea temple, it is a rock formation off the coast and home to the pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah Lot. It gets pretty busy in the afternoon for sunset.

Goa Gajah isn’t full of elephants but had bathing pools and fountains, rock wall carvings, meditation cave. It was built in the 11th century as a spiritual place for meditation. Located 6 km from Central Ubud.

Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu Temple is located at the south west cliff top, 70m above the sea and providing a great spot for sunset. There are lots of monkeys around that will steal your belongings, even glasses from your head so make sure you any loose items are packed away. Uluwatu is really popular with surfers.

Make sure to take a sarong with you when visiting any temples in Bali.
