Markets of Mexico
One of my favourite things to do when I arrive in a city is to just wander around the markets, watching the local people and eating loads food and they definitely did not disappoint in Mexico. In Mexico City alone there are over three hundred “mercados” which are permanent markets housed within government owned buildings. There are also at least a thousand “tianguis” open air markets that pop up every week. Each market specialises in particular items, Mercado Jamaica in Mexico City is the flower market with sections of fresh produce and Mexican handicrafts. This market is especially colourful and lively in the lead up to Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Here are some of my favourite photos from Mercado Jamaica and Mercado San Juan in Mexico City and also Mercado de Benito Juárez in Oaxaca
